Karius is still feeling the heat six weeks on from his calamitous showing in the Champions League final, as he contributed directly to two of Real Madrid's goal in their 3-1 win in Kiev.

Tranmere scored from the loose ball but Klopp was quick to deflect criticism away from Karius. We can't make a story after each mistake. That you [the media] do what you do, we have to deal with it.

"No-one likes that goal but if we talk about the second goal I think it was Millie's (James Milner's) fault together with (Pedro) Chirvella". So let's carry on and make the best of all these situations to learn from it.

Klopp was irritated by Liverpool's second-half display and by the continued focus on his German keeper, although that was unavoidable after an untimely error even in a pre-season friendly against League Two opposition.

"You (the media) can all stop it immediately - promise?"

Klopp said Karius "could" have saved the shot, but that it was "not easy to deal with".

"I don't like it, you don't like it, he doesn't like it, but they do happen".

'I've seen this situation at least 500 times in my life [when the ball] hits the chest [of a goalkeeper].

However, Karius featured for Liverpool FC in their first pre-season friendly against Chester over the weekend, and Klopp was clearly pleased by his performance in the 7-0 win.

Dave Maddock's revelation last week that Klopp will be sticking with the former Mainz man was met with more anger but most fans decided if the manager was willing to be patient, then they would be too.
