The newspaper tweeted a photo apparently from the scene, showing a lightly smashed up motorbike and auto, with a caption suggesting the vehicle had been turning and Clooney had made contact with its windscreen.

George Clooney was reportedly involved in a motorbike accident on an Italian island Tuesday.

He is understood to have received treatment at John Paul II hospital, but NBC News report that he has since been discharged. A auto did not respect the right of way and hit him.

La Nuova reported he was found to have a slight trauma to the pelvis and bruises to one leg and arm, but his condition was not serious.

The 57-year-old actor, who is now filming a TV series on the Italian island, was understood to be driving to set when the incident occurred.

Clooney is now filming TV drama Catch-22 on the Italian island.

Clooney, 57, plays US Air Force commander Scheisskopf in the World War Two Channel 4 drama, based on Joseph Heller's classic novel. The series is being produced for Hulu.

Clooney was pictured stepping off a private jet with wife Amal and twins, Alexander and Ella, near the end of last month.

Clooney has a home on Lake Como on the Italian mainland.
