Former MSNBC host and longtime radio broadcaster Ed Schultz has died. The following year, he debuted on Kremlin-funded RT America, hosting the half hour News With Ed Schultz. He built a radio show following that led to syndication with the Jones Radio Network and Dial Global, later being hired by MSNBC in 2009. A statement from RT later clarified he passed away at his home in Washington, D.C. This has been corrected. He later changed his political views and became a Democrat.

During his career, Schultz hosted the nationally syndicated "Ed Schultz News and Commentary" podcast from 2015 until the time of his death. In 1992, he made the transition to conservative talk radio. "Between us I always called him a 'gladiator.' He would never give up; he was always a victor".

In 2017, RT America was required to register as a foreign agent.

"We at RT America are sad to announce the passing of Edward Andrew Schultz", RT America said in a statement.

Schultz's move to RT America was not without controversy, either.

His son, David Schultz, told the Associated Press that his father died of natural causes. In addition, he hosted a nightly television show, News with Ed Schultz, since 2016.

Schultz was a standout quarterback at Minnesota State University-Moorhead in the 1970s. "This gives me a chance to do something that I haven't had an opportunity to do in my career", Schultz said in 2016.
