Wales worldwide Gareth Bale, who replaced Ronaldo as the world's most expensive player in 2013, gave high praise to his fellow forward.

The Portugal worldwide scored two goals against Juventus in Real's 4-1 win in the 2017 Champions League final and, earlier this season, struck a jaw-dropping bicycle kick against the Italian side in a 3-0 win in a quarter-final first-leg game in Turin which prompted Juve supporters to give him a standing ovation.

"Real Madrid CF communicates that, in response to the will and request expressed by the player Cristiano Ronaldo, he has agreed to transfer to Juventus FC", the club said in a statement, translated via Google. "My only feeling is of an enormous gratitude for this club, for these fans and for this city".

New Juventus signing Emre Can was asked about the possibility of playing with the five time World Player of the Year during his presentation to the Turin club on Monday. I feel that way and I ask everyone, and especially our followers, to please understand me.

Ronaldo is looking for a fresh challenge after nine successful years in Spain, and Italian giants Juventus are considered to be frontrunners for his signature in what would be the largest deal of the summer, without question.

In addition to that, Juve will have to pay the €100 transfer fee to Real Madrid.

Real Madrid described Ronaldo as one of the club's "great symbols" for his success on the pitch and the example he led off it.

But they are not the only ones with faith in one of the best players of all time, with Juventus' shares on the stock exchange spiking by nearly 40 percent since rumours of Ronaldo's arrival first surfaced on June 28, and by 5.7 percent on Tuesday alone. "Real Madrid will always be your home".

Ronaldo went on to express his gratitude for the time he has spent at the Bernabeu and insisted the club would always have a place in his heart.

Ronaldo became the world's most expensive player when he joined Real from Manchester United in 2009, going on to become the club's all-time leading scorer.

The reigning Ballon d'Or victor is set to end his nine-year spell at the Bernabeu with a move to Turin following a rift with Madrid president Florentino Perez over a new contract.

Ronaldo is now on vacation in Greece following Portugal's elimination from the World Cup. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Ronaldo's Juventus debut could come in the MLS All-Star Game on August 1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Looking "forward" to a new team!
