Chelsea's incredibly short send off to Antonio Conte

The Blues are now expected to appoint Sarri, who recently left Napoli, which led to a contract wrangle with the Italian club, although the saga is nearing a conclusion.

Chelsea have an interest in Higuain and he is rated by Maurizio Sarri, who is set to take over at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea finally confirmed Conte's departure on Friday, with Cesc Fabregas paying tribute to the Italian coach on Twitter.

The Daily Express is reporting that the duo's futures played a key role in convincing the Blues to part company with the Italian manager after two years in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Winning the FA Cup against former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho's Manchester United in May was scant consolation to finishing 30 points behind champions Manchester City in the league.

Should Sarri be appointed, he would be Chelsea's ninth full-time manager since Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003. "I wish you every success in the future".

They offered the 48-year-old no thanks for his work over the last two years as former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri arrived in London.

Chelsea seeks a 13th permanent manager under Abramovich's ownership, and at possibly the most turbulent period of the Russian billionaire's trophy-filled reign.

Sarri is believed to have agreed to bring former Chelsea favourite Gianfranco Zola - whose managerial career has stalled after a series of failures - along as one of his backroom staff.

Piotr Zielinski, Jorginho and Lorenzo Insigne have also flourished with Sarri at the helm.

Media reports said Conte's departure would take to 85 million pounds the amount Chelsea has spent on paying off sacked managers - nearly the record fee Manchester United paid in 2016 for France midfielder Paul Pogba.

They reportedly include Brazil-born Italy global midfielder Jorginho from Napoli, CSKA Moscow´s Russian playmaker Aleksandr Golovin and Italian defender Daniele Rugani from Juventus, the side that edged Napoli in the Serie A title race.
