The crowds have greatly exceeded our expectations and, per local authorities, US stores can not accept any additional Guests for this event and are limiting lines due to extreme crowds and safety concerns.

The do-it-yourself stuffed animal store said the most anyone will have to pay is $29.

The Build-A-Bear "Pay Your Age Day" is being met with a snag - lines have gotten so long that it's a safety hazard, in some places.

- If you're not already in line for today's special Build-A-Bear store sale, it's probably too late.

Thursday morning around 11 a.m., the company announced lines are now closed and additional guests are not being accepted at any location, due to crowds and safety concerns.

What if my age is higher than the price of the stuffed animal I want to purchase?

The concept was that a 4-year-old would receive a Build-A-Bear for only $4. The event was for one day only, Thursday, July 12. "We are working to address the situation, and we will be reaching out to our valued guests soon". "I didn't expect this kind of crowd".

Several tweets from shoppers at malls across Maryland, D.C. and Virginia show large lines around malls waiting to get into Build-a-Bear.

St. Louis-based Build-A-Bear has some 400 stores worldwide.

Livid parents took to social media in the USA and the rage. "However, to be so ill planned that it has to be shut down so early is very disappointing", wrote another user in a comment on the Build-A-Bear Facebook page.

Thousands of parents and children flocked to their nearest store hoping to snag the bargain.

The offer is only valid for Build-A-Bear's Bonus Club members.
