The deal is clearly done but Arsenal probably wanted to wait until Wednesday to make the official announcement as Tuesday was all about the arrival of Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria.

Torreira, 22, appeared in three matches for Uruguay at the World Cup, including in their quarterfinal defeat in France.

Guendouzi emerged as a box-to-box midfielder at Lorient but excelled in a deeper role last season and he's already represented France at Under-20 level so he has a huge future ahead of him.

"He is a young player already with good experience, but who wants to keep on growing".

Torreira will wear the number 11 shirt vacated by midfielder Mesut Ozil.

Torreira shined with Uruguay in Russian Federation in their deep run to the World Cup quarterfinals.

"I feel calm", Torreira said in his first interview with the club's media team. It's a very positive thing that people want to welcome me.

New Arsenal Head coach Unai Emery called Torreira a very bright talent as he welcomed the Uruguayan to the club.

"I feel calm. I am used to coping with this kind of thing in the best possible way". I want to win every game - that's really important to me.

Emery has made the tenacious tackler his fourth summer signing after bringing in Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Bernd Leno and Stephan Lichtsteiner.

UC Sampdoria announces that it has relinquished the rights to the sports performances of the player Lucas Sebastián Torreira to Arsenal FC.

The World Cup victor has been linked with the shirt number in the past but England global Wilshere was reluctant to give up the prestigious number as Ozil stuck it out with the No11 jersey.
