14 injured in suspected knife attack on German bus

Eight people have been injured in an attack on a busy bus in the northern German city of Luebeck.

He has lived in Luebeck, northeast of Hamburg, for years, Luebecker Nachrichten newspaper reported.

Unconfirmed local media reports said the attacker was detained by police.

An unknown number of passengers were injured, including one seriously, during the attack on the crowded bus in Luebeck, Germany, at about 1:47 p.m., authorities said.

The suspect, who is thought to have been armed with a kitchen knife, is believed to be a 34-year-old man originally from Iran but now a German citizen. The attacker was overpowered by passengers outside the vehicle, then quickly arrested by police nearby.

"There are no indications that the man was in any way politically radicalized", Hingst said.

Five of the victims were still hospitalized Friday evening. "Nothing can be ruled out, including a terrorist background", she was quoted as saying. "We are investigating in all directions".

Police spokesman Dierk Duerbook told the Bild newspaper that no one was killed in the attack.

Police tweeted that 10 people were hurt.
