The United States, Canada and Mexico will host the 2026 World Cup, after the joint bid of the three countries beat Morocco.

The three countries presented a "United Bid" that promised to take football to a combined 500million people in North America and were awarded 134 votes to Morocco's 65. "Football today is the only victor".

Herdman said there is precedent for the nations involved in joint bids being granted entry, pointing to Japan and South Korea in 2002.

The delegates were meeting in Russian Federation for the annual Fifa congress on the eve of the World Cup.

"Let us also salute our friends from Morocco", added Cordeiro.

One delegate voted for none of the bids.

Major League Soccer released the following statement: "The decision to host World Cup 2026 in Canada, Mexico and the United States is a testament to our three nations coming together for the United Bid, and a monumental step in our collective mission to further advance the game of soccer in North America".

The World Cup hosts have never been beaten in the opening match. The bid also expects record ticket and hospitality revenue.

A mock schedule (via Yahoo) even planned when and where some matches would take place.

The current blueprint calls for Canada and Mexico to stage 10 games each with the USA hosting 60.

The World Cup is returning to the United States, and this time, Mexico and Canada are along for the wild ride.

Canada failed in its lone previous bid - to host the 1986 tournament after Colombia pulled out as host.

"But I think where it had the advantage was the World Cup would be more profitable in America and it is a capitalist world".

The vote by national football federations was public, in contrast to secrecy surrounding the 2010 vote when FIFA's elected board members picked Russia to host in 2018 and Qatar in 2022, defeating the U.S. "However, it is important to note that both bids were deemed to have met the hosting requirements and a tournament in Morocco, close to Europe and in a country that loves football, had a great deal for English football fans to be excited about".

Seventeen sites across the United States will host, including Philadelphia and East Rutherford, NJ, which will host the 2026 World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium.

"We are very excited and humbled that the FIFA member associations have entrusted the Concacaf region with the honour of hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup in its new extended format", CONCACAF said in a statement.

She was cleared of any wrongdoing and dismissed the claims as "laughable" and "unfortunate".

Morocco plans to use 14 stadiums, nine of which have yet to be built with the other five due for renovation.

Zimbabwe, who diplomatically are in the process of adjusting their foreign policy, especially mending relations with the United States and its allies after years of isolation, are vulnerable in this vote with no other option but to sing in the North Americans' corner.
