Analysts remarked on the similar leadership styles of the men.

Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., accused Trump of "turning our foreign policy into an global joke".

The last meeting between Trump and Putin was a brief exchange in Vietnam last November. Trump first joked that the Canadian leader "has agreed to cut all tariffs".

French President Emmanuel Macron told journalists on Saturday that Russian Federation could rejoin the summit if Moscow implemented the Minsk agreements, which were meant to enforce a solution the crisis in Ukraine. The latter now includes the United States, Canada, Japan, Britain, Italy, France and Germany. Opinion polls, the accuracy of which no one disputes, show that not only in his country but around the world Putin has popular backing few western leaders can come close to.

"We agree that a return by Russian Federation to the G7 format can not happen as long as there isn't any substantial progress in regard to the problems with Ukraine".

Trump accused the Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau, of being "dishonest and weak" for pointing out that America's excuse for imposing aluminum and steel tariffs on his country - that they pose a national security threat to the United States - makes no sense.

It also calls for co-ordinated attribution of hostile activity so more countries name and shame perpetrators of cyber attacks and other abuses.

Elsewhere in her remarks, May underscored the need to stop having tit-for-tat actions in a trade war between the European Union and the USA which began after Trump imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from key allies.

At the same time more and more leading American and Russian experts believe that the probability of actual U.S. "Not fair to our farmers!"

In April, the White House confirmed the two leaders spoke in a phone call about meeting at the White House "in the 'not-too-distant-future'".

By doing so, Trump will skip meetings on climate change, energy policy and oceans.

Asked in Qingdao about the G-7's tumultuous meeting Friday and Saturday in Canada, Putin focused on the rift between Europe and the United States on tariffs, which he said "is more significant than any emotional outbursts".

Tensions between the US and its allies have increased in recent weeks after a series of White House decisions have frustrated some of the United States' closest worldwide partners.

Yet Trump wants them there, and other than his apparently desperate desire to hang out with Putin, it's hard to imagine why. For the president of the United States to blame his predecessor rather than to understand Russian Federation is our adversary, Russian Federation has taken on behavior that's absolutely reprehensible, including being responsible for shooting a civilian aircraft out of the skies and killing hundreds of people.

Little of that tension was on display when the cameras entered the rooms of the summit, however. Trudeau responded by saying the North American Free Trade Agreement was "in good shape", despite the fact that talks around renegotiating that deal have largely stalled. "The EU trade surplus with the U.S.is $151 Billion, and Canada keeps our farmers and others out".

"Our relationship is very good".

"We've made a lot of progress today".
