A Naperville police officer was caught on camera rescuing a toddler wandering on a busy road.

Sergeant Anthony Mannino received the Naperville, Illinois Police Department's life saving award Thursday because of the heroic act you are about to see. "I initially thought it was a dog at large about to run into the street", Mannino said.

The video shows the 1-year-old boy running down the roadway as traffic passes just a few feet from him. However, the boy keeps running, forcing Mannino into a full sprint to catch up. Mannino then alerts dispatch that he has him and would begin searching for his parents. He quickly realized, however, it was a small child.

According to the Naperville Police Department, which posted the footage to its Facebook page Monday afternoon, the boy "escaped his mother's watchful eye". She told the officer he had made it about two blocks from their home. The mother was not charged as the incident was deemed an accident, the spokeman said.
