Thailand also has "ardent hope that all parties concerned will exert their utmost efforts in attaining these significant goals for the benefits of the region and the world", it added. "Hopefully something positive can come from this".

North Korea's formal name is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Prior to his appointment as ambassador to the Philippines in 2014, he had served as Special Representative for North Korea Policy in Washington, and as Special Envoy for the Six-Party Talks.

"Kim Jong-un invited Trump to visit Pyongyang at a convenient time and Trump invited Kim Jong-un to visit the US", KCNA reported.

Trump didn't offer much assurance on the question of how to confirm that North Korea had complied with any deal. In 2011, he returned to South Korea as U.S. ambassador until 2014.

On 12 June President Trump announced the U.S. would stop its war games with South Korea in a concession made to Kim Jong-un after the two held direct talks in Singapore.

Trump said the movie was shown to Kim and his aides on an iPad and "a cassette".

Denuclearisation of North Korea was barely mentioned elsewhere in the statement, which mainly focused on stopping hostilities between North Korea and the United States.

Backdrops of U.S. and North Korean flags, both red white and blue, were also prominent in the Rodong Sinmun, which has previously lashed the United States as a "gangster-like imperialist", and "cancer-like entity".

The official Rodong Sinmun newspaper carried four pages of photographs of Kim and Trump at the historic meeting, plus the full text of the letter the two leaders signed. Trump showed the video, which was made by the National Security Council, publicly during a news conference with reporters on Tuesday. Kim Jong-un signed a complete denuclearization and promised to destroy a missile engine testing site. Kim met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in the week leading up to the summit.

Roy Lee, 18, who was born in the United States to Korean immigrants who own a restaurant, said he felt a little concerned by the summit though he cared about the safety of his extended family in South Korea.

Highlighting the continued differences in the two countries' views of the denuclearization process, the report also said that they had agreed on a "step-by-step" approach.

"When I watch some of those things, I'm kind of embarrassed for those people, as great things are going on", Melissa Francis, the co-host of "Outnumbered", said after the program aired a reel of journalists criticizing Trump's praise of Kim and the president's slapdash approach to the summit.
