"It's important that he be at the World Cup because he's a great protagonist and a great player".

Egypt's World Cup group rivals Saudi Arabia have suffered a 3-0 defeat to Peru in their preparations for the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation.

Juan Antonio Pizzi will be the new man on the sideline as Saudi Arabia look to spring a surprise in Group A.

"It does not matter who makes the goal here, there can not be vanity, we all play for a single goal".

Russian Federation will host its first-ever FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15.

But it was André Carrillo who opened the scoreline for Peru after 20 minutes, with a left footed shot from outside the box.

Guerrero's dream of playing in his first World Cup appeared to have been wrecked last month when an original six-month ban was increased to 14 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Peru - unbeaten in 14 matches since 2016 - are set to make their first World Cup appearance in 36 years, with Ricardo Gareca's men scheduled to face Denmark (June 16), France (June 21) and Australia (June 26) in Group C.

Peru captain Paolo Guerrero said he is grateful to his team-mates after scoring twice in his long-awaited return ahead of the World Cup.

It also recognised that Guerrero, who tested positive for a cocaine byproduct - contained in a tea he drank - in October, "did not act intentionally or with significant negligence".

Still, a Switzerland Federal Tribunal judge said on Thursday the ban should not apply until Guerrero's appeal is heard in full after the FIFA World Cup.
