Marvel film Black Panther received the highest honour of the night with the best movie accolade.

"It took a lot to get into this character, so I'm just glad that you guys enjoyed the role as much as I enjoyed playing Killmonger", he said.

"This is gonna live at your house", Boseman said, handing the trophy to Shaw.

"I'm shocked that I won this award for best villain", Jordan kidded.

The 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards aired on Monday night, and Tiffany Haddish hosted the most entertaining installment ever. Shaw leapt into action and wrested the weapon from the man, preventing any additional casualties.

For the second year running, the prize-giving dispensed with gender distinctions in the categories and awarded Best kiss to a same-sex embrace. "When Black Panther came out, [director] Ryan Coogler and I wanted to make sure that we did a a movie that everybody could embrace".

In addition to the jab at Barr, Jordan also poked fun at fans later in his speech for asking his Black Panther co-star Chadwick Boseman to recite the film's most popular tagline.

Roseanne wasn't on the ticket, but the other nominees for best villain were impressive indeed, including Thanos (Josh Brolin) from Avengers: Infinity War, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) from The Last Jedi, and creepy clown Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard) from It.

The Netflix original drama took home three of the evening's 14 awards, including Best Show.

Chris Pratt mixed humour and religious messages while accepting the show's generation award, telling the crowd to "breathe". In his acceptance speech, he delivered nine rules for life, both humorous and serious.

"There should be no space in this world for bullying, and I'm not going to tolerate it and neither should any of you", she said. She couldn't attend in person, so instead shared the video above. She also spoke out against her haters, who made her the subject of homophobic memes last week.
