A suspended school teacher who had been accused of an inappropriate relationship with a student was reportedly shot to death in her mother's driveway on Mother's Day.

After coming home from an ice-cream shop at around 11:00 p.m., DelTondo went up to her mother's driveway on Buchanan Street and was gunned down.

DelTondo died at the scene, 35 kilometres northwest of Pittsburgh.

A neighbor said that he heard at least six shots fired.

The County Coroner's Office for Beaver County has ruled that the death was definitely a murder and that she died as a result of multiple gunshots to the chest.

Last fall, she was suspended with pay from her teaching job at Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School after a confidential police report about her and a former student was leaked.

Officials at the school received an anonymous tip-off via email in October 2017 that claimed that she had been involved in an incident in which police found her in a parked vehicle with a student who was 17 at the time, reports the Daily Mail.

The Times Online reports that DelTondo was found at 1:50am on February 6, 2016 in a vehicle with the teenager.

Police noted that the car's "windows were steamed over and the engine was not running".

Inside was DelTondo and the teen.

DelTondo was reportedly not charged but did tell police that "she didn't want her fiancé to know that she was here parked because he would get mad".

However, School CEO Brian Hayden said records show the teen was never a registered student at PA Cyber.

The email included the police report and a note that DelTondo and the teen had a "relationship" over text messages and Snapchat messages. The report concluded that "Deltondo was advised that there was better places to just talk with a former student", and further stated that the responding officer hoped not to find her in the same predicament again.

"The reason this report was not filed in February 2016 with the Aliquippa School District, Children and Youth Services and a mandated report to the Department of Education was because it was an attempted cover up", the second email reads.

The police have launched a full homicide investigation. We have no additional information beyond what is being reported by local media. "We express our sympathy to her family and coworkers and will support them in any way possible in the weeks and months ahead as they mourn her passing".

"Nobody, including Ms. Deltondo, the Aliquippa Police Department, the juvenile male or his family, or any other person or agency had informed PA Cyber of this or any other incident".

The teacher was planning a big, elaborate wedding with her Italian-American family, which included a $10,000, custom-made dress from a NY designer, CBS Local reported. They called off the wedding after the affair. Officials said they are looking at a cellphone for information.

Eventually, they took the salon to court and got a local investigative reporter involved to pressure the wedding dress maker into doing the right thing.

Today, family, neighbors and friends are struggling to come to terms with her sudden death. "I really don't... lovely lady, friendly, knew everybody, talked to everybody". Dan Casper, a family neighbor, told CBS News: "I don't know why that happened".
