Shenmue 3 Delayed into 2019, Unsurprisingly

Now that certain stretch goals have been reached such as an advanced free battle system, skill tree system and more, the scope of Shenmue 3 is much larger than anticipated.

Yu Suzuki then chimed in on the game's Kickstarter page, saying "To all of our backers, we are very sorry for the delay". Maybe this delay will give the developers time to add in 20 extra hours of forklift driving segments. To "polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible timeframe".

In a not-all-that-surprising move, Shenmue III publisher Deep Silver has announced that the game will be delayed until an unspecified date sometime in 2019.

When Yu Suzuki took the stage to announce a Kickstarter campaign for Shenmue 3 in 2015, the initial expected release date was December 2017.

This is a bit of a setback considering that the game has been in and out of development over the last decade. "We can not thank you enough for your enduring support".

It looks like the wait for Shenmue 3 will be that much longer... yet again.

Shenmue III will have familiar elements from its predecessors and new fight mechanics to achieve a new level of interactive storytelling.

Shenmue fans will at least be able to play the first two games in 2018 as SEGA will re-release Shenmue 1 and 2 for modern-day platforms (including the PC). That's why Shenmue 3 is now facing a delay, moving its release window to 2019.
