ABC have since released a statement over their decision to cancel the show, with Channing Dungey, the network's president of entertainment, saying: "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values and we have chose to cancel her show". - I just want to apologise to the hundreds of people, and wonderful writers (all liberal) and talented actors who lost their jobs on my show due to my stupid tweet.

It was a whirlwind Tuesday for comedian Roseanne Barr who, after hurling a racist and Islamophobic tweet at former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett, became the centre of a Twitter firestorm that led to the swift cancellation of revived sitcom Roseanne on ABC.

Roseanne Barr blamed sleeping pills for the racist tweet that got her ABC show canned. Then on Wednesday, she insisted what she said wasn't racist but insensitive, hitting back at critics.

Roseanne Barr continued to retweet a series of tweets on May 29 and some of them were blaming Michelle Obama for the cancellation of her ABC sitcom "Roseanne". The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of ABC and this station. Sanofi, the makers of Ambien, responded to say that "racism is not a known side effect". Retweeting memes and fans defending her hours after news broke that her ABC show had been cancelled, Barr blamed the mishap on the fact that she'd consumed some Ambien.

"Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie Jarrett to let her know that "ABC does not tolerate comments like those" made by Roseanne Barr", Mr Trump tweeted on Wednesday, referring to the former White House senior adviser. Trump tweeted that maybe he "just didn't get the call".

"Roseanne" was rebooted in March after a 21-year hiatus with Barr's character recast as a Trump supporter in a rare depiction of working class life on the USA small screen. Iger told Vogue magazine last month that he had considered running for president but decided against it to focus on business.

"I'm sorry for my tweet", she wrote in what tweet that was later deleted. "And he said to me, oh my gosh, you married up in the world". In the tweet, she wrote if the "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj".

ABC's reboot of "Roseanne" garnered an average of 18.1 million viewers, according to The Hill.

Barr also issued two separate apologies for her self-proclaimed "bad joke" - one apology on her own Twitter account, and the other published by BuzzFeed - but again followed them up with retweets and likes of supporters who were defending Barr.
