Region remains under severe-thunderstorm watch until 9 pm

A tornado watch is in effect for Columbia and Greene Counties until 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The summer-like storms pack the potential to bring heavy rain, hail, lightning and damaging winds. However, isolated large hail along with heavy rain/street flooding is also a concern. Though risky weather is possible in the Hub and winds could reach 60 miles per hour in the city on Tuesday, the system poses greater threats to central and western MA.

South Jersey is under a tornado watch Saturday night until 1 a.m. Sunday. Washington and many surrounding areas have received over two inches of rain in the past few days, and soil is becoming saturated.


Thunderstorms are predicted to roll through Chicago Monday morning and again in the late afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Thunderstorms and strong winds are expected.

Also in the evening, there's a 30 percent chance for rain and possibly thunderstorms.

As we reach the start of the work week, there's a chance of showers throughout the week, with temperatures in the upper 70s.

Severe storms have impacted portions of Motley, Hall and Cottle County.


Nicosia explains that when they are expecting severe weather for a particular area such as the Twin Tiers they will issue a watch. "While the main threat is for minor flooding of urban and poor drainage areas, there is a small chance for localized flash flooding".

Rain is expected in the forecast on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

High winds themselves could lead to trees being knocked down and possible power outages.
