Blizzard has published a new Overwatch blog post to announce that the game will be free to play on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Seasonal items from all of the other events will also be available to be unlocked during this year's Anniversary event.

Jeff also mentions that Overwatch now has 40 million players. Without a doubt, this constant attention to details in the most recent patch and those before it have assisted in giving the game a solid reputation among fans, leading to its huge player base.

"Petra is lovely. There are some really fun gameplay elements to it as well", Kaplan continued. And beyond new anniversary skins, players can look forward to a whole new free-for-all Deathmatch map called Petra.

Petra's release will coincide with the first free-for-all competitive Deathmatch season. For example, there is a mega health pack in the very center of the map in an area that becomes increasingly unsafe as the match goes on. To help celebrate this and the anniversary, players can log in during the Overwatch Anniversary event and receive a free Legendary Anniversary Loot Box. He also said that there will be a lot of diversity in the type of heroes that can play on the map.

Additionally, Overwatch Twitter account has shared the exciting announcement that Overwatch Anniversary will kick off on May 22 and bring back past brawls and cosmetics!

The anniversary loot box comes with a guaranteed anniversary item and the opportunity to get any item from any of their previous seasonal events.

The Legendary Edition will be released on May 22nd, the same date as the Anniversary in-game event begins.
