Striking a fine balance between performance and cruiser, the new model brings with it the proven 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine which is capable of making 384kW of power and 670Nm of torque.

The market launch for the new Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster starts from July 2018, and orders can be placed immediately. In the standard model, this produces 469 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, while the C version ups the ante to 550 hp and 502 lb-ft. As standard, the AMG GT S Roadster is shod with mixed tyres on 19-inch rims at the front and 20-inch rims at the rear. It's the third variant to join Affalterbach's drop-top sports auto lineup, and it sits between the current GT and GT C in terms of performance and price.

The GT S jumps from 0 to 60 miles per hour in an estimated 3.7 seconds, more quickly than the GT (3.9 seconds) but a touch slower than the GT S (3.6 seconds).

Like the most powerful GT Roadster in the lineup, the GT S will feature a standard AMG Ride Control suspension with adaptive damping. In addition, five drive modes are available, including Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, Race, and Individual. The vehicle also comes standard with an electronically controlled locking differential at the rear axle, which is integrated with the rear-mounted transmission (transaxle). In the rear, there are 14.2-inch brake discs and single-piston fixed calipers.

"With the AMG GT S Roadster, our AMG GT family has gained another exceptionally sporty member that combines high driving dynamics with an emotional open-air experience", says Tobias Moers, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. This means sports seats wrapped in Artico faux leather and Dinamica microfibre with the optional extra being nappa leather. Pricing will be announced at that time; expect a starting figure of about £125,000.
