Heavy rain, flood threat continue Friday, Saturday

Some of the rain could fall in a short period of time, triggering worry of flash flooding.

The likelihood of heavy rain continues Friday.

At 606 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a developing line of almost stationary line of thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 4 inches are expected over the next 72 hours, with the highest totals now expected in Delmarva and far southern New Jersey.

Rivers, creeks and streams could rise rapidly and lead to flash flooding, the weather service said. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.By The National Weather Service, Sterling, Va.

As storms continue to dump rain on areas of the state, travel conditions became hazardous and resulted in a few reported water rescues. The weather service says there's a chance of precipitation in the forecast through Tuesday night.
