Nine states have reported illnesses: Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and SC.

Twelve more people were confirmed to have fallen ill after consuming eggs produced by Indiana's Rose Acre Farms, bringing the total of sickened individuals to 35.

In fact, the CDC reported that eight people in Virginia had been sickened as of May 9. Some of the eggs were also sold at Food Lion stores under the store's brand and some were sold at Walmart under the Great Value brand.

Both the CDC and the FDA are also advising consumers to cook eggs fully, and to carefully wash any surfaces or tools that come into contact with raw eggs.

Consumers, restaurants and retailers are still advised not to eat, serve or sell recalled eggs produced by Rose Acre Farms' Hyde County farm. Most people make successful recoveries without any need for treatment, but there are some cases where severe diarrhea may require hospitalization.

Salmonella can cause serious and even deadly infections in children or elderly adults.

The recall involves eggs with the plant number P-1065, with the Julian date range of 011 through 102 printed on either side of the carton or package. For Publix and Sunups egg cartons, the plant number is P-1359D and the Julian date is 048A or 049A with best by dates of April 02 and April 03.

While the eggs were recalled in April it is being reported that people began falling ill as early as November 2017 and are still getting ill as recently as last month. "Sixteen reported eating various egg dishes at different restaurants", said the DCD statement. In 1990, the egg producer was linked to three separate salmonella outbreaks that sickened hundreds of people, the paper reported.

In a U.S. Food and Drug Administration report released following the outbreak announcement, inspectors say they found dozens of rodents and poor worker hygiene at a North Carolina chicken farm operated Rose Acre. NY and Virginia have reported the highest number of cases, with eight each.
