Arsenal will appoint Unai Emery as their new manager, according to reports.

Nicholas believes the former Sevilla manager is less of a risk compared to Arteta for Arsenal, who are looking for a replacement for Arsene Wenger.

Emery left Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season after winning one Ligue 1 title and four domestic cups during his two seasons in charge - but his likely appointment will still come as a surprise given he only emerged as a "last-gasp contender" over the weekend after the Gunners were alerted to the Spaniard's availability.

Previously he guided Sevilla to three consecutive Europa League triumphs between 2014 and 2016.

Emery's English is not completely fluent but the language barrier is not expected to be a problem. These are numerous most committed Arsenal followers and the discussion throughout the evening had initially been about Mikel Arteta, and concerns about his inexperience, so the Emery bulletins found support.

Gazidis felt a younger coach would slot better into a modern European football structure, complemented by head of recruitment Sven Mislintat and new head of football relations Raul Sanllehi.

"What's going on at Arsenal, where's Unai Emery come from?"

You'd have thought that by now they would have known exactly what's going on.

Wenger, 67, who has had no say in the appointment of the new man, waved goodbye as he left the club's Hertfordshire training complex and the club looked to the future.

Paris let him go however because he just couldn't get them over the UEFA Champions League hump, despite all the heavy spending on players such as Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. If we do see a difference in intensity, drive and consistency everybody will get onside and that's all Arsenal fans want to see.
