It's the kind of tale which could only involve Diego Maradona. After the announcement, Maradona expanded through Morla that he will leave his residency in Uruguay to live in Brest, where it is hoped that greater success than at his last employer, Al-Fujairah, languishing in the second division of the UAE, will be encountered.

Having enjoyed a varied career since he retired from playing, Maradona posted on Instagram: "I am president of the club, Dynamo Brest".

Argentine football legend Diego Maradona has been appointed as chairman of obscure Belarusian club Dinamo Brest.

"Yes, Diego's with us!" the club wrote on its official Twitter account late Tuesday, following media rumours over the weekend.

"Thanks for the confidence and for thinking of me": Diego Maradona.

Diego Maradona will get down to work after the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation.

Maradona will supervise strategic development and cooperate with all structural departments, including the Academy of Dynamo Brest, according to a statement on the club's website.

The club, eighth in this season's Belarusian Premier League, have given him a contract through to 2021.

The former Argentina star has taken over as head of the Belarusian club's board after leaving his most recent coaching job with Al Fujairah, who play in the United Arab Emirates' second tier.
