Trump lashes out at ex-FBI chief

Comey admits that he did not vote for Obama, and financially supported his opponents, but writes glowingly of the Obama he came to know, describing him as "an extraordinary listener" and a man of kindness and intellect.

- Comey writes that during the meeting he kept thinking of the NY mafia from his experience as a federal prosecutor in Manhattan, and how the Trump team's behaviour was aimed at making the intelligence community part of his group - his "Cosa Nostra".

What are the most explosive claims in James Comey's memoir?

Comey says he offered his "honest loyalty" instead. "I sat there thinking, Holy crap, they are trying to make each of us "amica nostra" - friend of ours".

In a pair of tweets, Trump accused Comey of leaking classified information and lying to Congress under oath. Trump fired Comey in May.

James Comey described US President Donald Trump as: "his face appeared slightly orange, with bright white half-moons under his eyes where I assumed he placed small tanning goggles".

"I said to him, 'Sir that's up to you but you want to be careful about that because it might create a narrative that we're investigating you personally and, second, it's very hard to prove something didn't happen", Comey said.

Trump slammed Comey on Friday morning and called him a "proven LEAKER & LIAR" and a "weak and untruthful slime ball".

"I had developed great respect for him as a leader and a person", Comey writes at one point.

Comey, fired by Trump in May 2017, says the president has no sense of what is right and wrong.

Comey's firing in May led to the appointment of Robert Mueller as special counsel in charge of investigating possible links between Trump's campaign and Russians who sought to influence the 2016 election with email hacks and fake news.

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told CNN he had "every confidence" in the accuracy of Comey's book.

Comey testified before Congress Trump's quest for loyalty made him uncomfortable. He paused. "That is what I want, honest loyalty", he said.

"We find Mr. Comey has a revisionist view of history and seems like a disgruntlement ex-employee", Conway told reporters outside the White House.

He also said that the former Federal Bureau of Investigation boss was "not smart" and "will go down as the worst Federal Bureau of Investigation director in history - by far!", adding that his book was "self-serving and FAKE!".

Todd also asked Ryan if he agreed with Trump's description of Comey as a "slimeball". Other than mistakes in the way I presented myself in the July 5 public statement in front of the television cameras, I am convinced that if I could do it all again, I would do the same thing, given my role and what I knew at the time. Comey writes that the president gave him flashbacks to his days prosecuting the Cosa Nostra.

The former FBI director, who was abruptly fired by Trump past year, announced in July 2016 that he would not recommend charges in the investigation of Clinton's email practices.
