Stone pelting leads to collision, killing 2 jawans

The incident occurred at 6.50 pm on Wednesday when the CRPF vehicle was passing through Hillar area after performing the day-long law and order duties.

Two CRPF jawans were crushed to death after the driver of a para-military force vehicle lost control of the auto due to stone pelting at Hiller area in Kokernag of South Kashmir, police said on Wednesday. Two other jawans, including the driver, suffered injuries.


Anantnag SSP Altaf Khan said that the stone-pelters attacked the CRPF vehicle as well as a bike-borne jawans.

CRPF spokesperson Rakesh Yadav said in Srinagar that the vehicle of 164th battalion of CRPF was thrown stones at due to which the driver lost control. The incident happened at Kokernag in Anantnag in south Kashmir. "CRPF vehicle pelted upon at Hillar, Kokernag with the result Driver lost control and met with an accident".


The driver of the armoured vehicle has been hit in his head and rushed to an Army hospital in Srinagar where his condition is stated to be serious after undergoing surgery.

The deceased CRPF men were identified as Nazeer Ahmad of Kokernag and Farooq Ahmad of Verinag.


Senior CRPF and state police officers have reached the spot and security forces have cordened the area.
