The vote was held after the United States warned that it was "locked and loaded", ready to launch more military strikes on Syria if President Bashar al-Assad's forces carry out a new chemical weapons attack.

Russian Federation had said all along that Syria had no need to use chemical weapons. 'The fact he was making this more normal and that Russian Federation was covering this up, all that has got to stop'.

"The American (military) knows well that going toward a wide confrontation and a big operation against the regime and the army and the allied forces in Syria could not end, and any such confrontation would inflame the entire region", Nasrallah said.

Ms Haley also made it clear that the United States will not be pulling troops out of Syria right away, saying USA involvement there "is not done".

UN Security Council has rejected Russia-sponsored resolution seeking condemnation of joint military air strikes launched by the United States, Britain and France on Syria in retaliation for an alleged chemical weapon attack.

The White House pushed back against Macron's comments about Trump's intentions for USA forces.

In a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani, Putin and Rouhani agreed that the Western strikes had damaged the chances of achieving a political resolution in the 7-year-old Syria conflict, according to a Kremlin statement. The Pentagon said it gave no explicit warning. He said the allies acted without a United Nations mandate because of the "constant stalemate of the Russians" in the Security Council.

Naeem Aslam, chief market analyst at Think Markets, said gold was poised to gain on Monday but the rally would not be very steep: "The focus will be on the counter-reaction from Russian Federation".

Maas listed a series of what he called problematic actions by Moscow, including the lack of progress in implementing a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine, a poison gas attack in Britain, Moscow's support of the Syrian government, Russia's efforts to influence Western elections, and the cyber attack. "We're matching", he said.

Syria and Russian Federation deny chemical weapons were used in the final offensive that captured Douma, a rebel-held territory east of Damascus. The U.S. says it suspects that sarin gas also was used.

Although officials said the singular target was Assad's chemical weapons capability, his air force, including helicopters he allegedly has used to drop chemical weapons on civilians, were spared.

The air defense forces of Syria and Russian Federation is not impressed, none of the more than 100 shells fired by the U.S., Britain and France on the production facilities of the chemical substances in Syria.

In a televised interview Sunday night, French President Emmanuel Macron said the U.S., France and Britain had "full global legitimacy to intervene" because they had gotten evidence the Syrian government used chemical weapons against its own people and the airstrikes were enforcing worldwide humanitarian law. That did not mean military strikes would continue.

Russian lawmaker Dmitry Sablin, who met with Assad, said he appeared upbeat and believed the airstrikes would unify the country.

Asked about Trump's "Mission Accomplished" assertion, White said it pointed to the successful targeting of the three Syrian chemical weapons sites.
