That's the same company responsible for a large number of Sega's previous re-releases, and they've proven to be reliable in terms of ensuring that the ported version of each title retains the spirit of the originals while featuring modest modern updates.

These first five games will be Sonic the Hedgehog, Gain Ground, Thunder Force IV, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, and Phantasy Star.

And the latest announcement concerns some new retro titles being brought to Nintendo's latest console.

Unlike the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection, Sega Ages titles won't be released in a physical compilation.

An array of classic Sega titles are coming to the Nintendo Switch. The good news for Sega is that nostalgia is still big these days, so fans are sure to be excited to hear that several classic Sega games will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch soon. Additionally, PC, Xbox One and PS4 players will get the chance to play Shenmeu I & II, which were originally released on the Sega Dreamcast console.

Sega Ages series producer Kagasei Shimomura is quoted as saying that he wants to expand the official lineup past the now confirmed retro games being worked on.

"We will extend this initiative to the Saturn and Dreamcast with your continued support", he is quoted as telling the crowd at Sega Fes 2018. The news comes to us from Japanese news website Game Watch. Alex Kidd was chosen because of its great performance on the Virtual Console, especially in Europe.

This suggests that this will be how SEGA decide on other ports at this time. Meanwhile, Sonic the Hegdehog, Gain Ground, and Thunder Force IV are SEGA Genesis titles; Sonic the Hedgehog and Gain Ground came out in 1991, while Thunder Force IV hit store shelves in 1992.
