Congress president Rahul Gandhi has instructed his party members to carry out a candle-light march in capitals of all the states, after rape incidents in Unnao and Kathua, reported news agency ANI. Celebrities broke their silence on the matter and have come out strongly against the rape and murder of the 8-year-old child in Kathua.

A visibly miffed Priyanka Gandhi was heard telling the crowd to respect the cause for which they gathered at the India Gate.

Gandhi, amid slogans against the BJP and the prime minister during the march last night, had claimed that the women of the country are afraid to go out and the government must ensure their safety.

The rape and murder of the kid girl and the BJP ministers defending the accused seems to have played heavily in the minds of the people in city. "You can see people across parties have joined us here tonight", Gandhi told reporters.

The Congress was trying to stage a protest the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu's Kathua district. Congress said Modi's aggressive bid to reach out to Dalits was prompted by the nationwide mobilisation during the April 2 protests against "dilution" of SC/ST Act. "The party is sleeping over such matters while its ministers and MLAs are involved which is really shameful", Maken said while addressing protesters near the Red Fort.

Earlier in the evening, Rahul Gandhi had tweeted, asking people to join him for "a silent, peaceful, candlelight vigil at India Gate at midnight tonight to protest this violence and demand justice".

When the girl wrote to PM Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Adityanath, accusing the MLA of rape, action was taken, Lekhi added.

"How can anyone protect the culprits of such evil?"

Her husband Robert Vadra said the country needs a change where women could feel safe. What happened to Asifa at #Kathua is a crime against humanity. "What have we become if we allow politics to interfere with such unimaginable brutality perpetrated on an innocent child?" he said.

On January 17, the body of a minor girl was found in the forests near Rasana, Hiranagar. The J&K Police have arrested 8 culprits in connection with the crime. Investigations revealed she was held captive in a temple and was sedated before being repeatedly raped and murdered.
