Ian Somerhalder, who played one of the hottest vampires on TV in The Vampire Diaries, is returning to the small screen in another series about the bloodthirsty creatures. The premise of the books revolves around a mysterious virus that starts transforming humans into bloodthirsty predators, setting the stage for an us-vs. -them war. Stargate and Stargate Atlantis's Brad Turner will both direct and executive produce the pilot episode of the series, with William Laurin and Glenn Davis (Power Play, Aftermath) serving as the showrunners.

For Somerhalder, meanwhile, V-Wars arrives a year after he signed off of The CW's Vampire Diaries following its eight-season run. As the disease spreads, Dr. Swann tries to figure out what is going on while Fayne becomes the leader of the newborn vampires. At least this time Somerhalder is not playing a vampire.

Edited by Jonathan Maberry, "A Chronicle of the Vampire Wars" is the name of a comic series.

Maberry has dived into the world of vampires unlike any other, with a war between those who remain alive and the undead. He also became a producer on the show, and directed a few episodes. Like V-Wars, Locke & Key is based on an IDW comic series (by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez) and is now being shopped around.

According to an April 16 report by TVLine, Ian Somerhalder has been cast in Netflix's V-Wars, which is an adaptation of a graphic novel series. It is unsure when exactly the program will make its debut on the streaming service. Somerhalder has been cast in the lead role of V-Wars, Dr. Luther Swann. Netlix's original programming has consistently earned itself an audience amongst subscribers, and there's no doubt that its latest offering will appeal not only to Somerhalder and Vampire Diaries fans, but to fans of binge-watching in general.
