Flipkart Gets Exclusive Rights To Sale Asus Phones, Eyes 40% Market Share

As the deadline for Walmart-Flipkart deal inches closer, major investors in Flipkart, except SoftBank, have agreed to sell their stakes in the company. Flipkart's CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy and Ajay Veer Yadav, Head of smartphones took to the stage to make the announcements. But there's more to its new partnership with Asus than what meets the eye. The handset will go on sale at 12:30pm on April 23, Monday. As part of the partnership, Flipkart will be the primary sales channel for Asus Zenfones in India. Whether or not ASUS will sell its smartphones on other e-commerce platforms hasn't been confirmed or denied yet.

The partnership is set to begin with the launch of the ZenFone Max Pro, which is powered by Snapdragon 636 chipset, on 23rd April, 2018. This will be the global unveiling of the ZenFone Max Pro model. The first device to hit the market under this exclusive arrangement will the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro. Since years, Asus is partnering exclusively with Flipkart to market their products in the Indian market. Together, these 2 categories add up to 55% of the sales in revenue terms and the absolute figure will be around $280 to $33 billion out of the total $50-$60 billion revenue the company records. In the process, it "wants to add the next 100 million smartphone users by 2020 to the current 330 million base".

With an aim to help Asus reach the right audience and penetrate deeper in the Indian market, Flipkart will become Asus' premier partner and seller for smartphones, starting with models that have been specially created to address Indian market needs. This tie-up will also define a roadmap for the launch of future ASUS Zenfone smartphones in India.

Asus has been struggling in the Indian smartphone for a while now, and the new partnership with Flipkart will help the brand to become more visible in the online retail space.

Commenting on this partnership with Flipkart, Jerry Shen, CEO, ASUS, said, "With Flipkart's partnership, we aim to gain more insights about Indian consumers' needs which can help us develop even more suitable products for the Indian market".
