Boxer Gaurav Solanki wins CWG title, Kaushik gets silver

Gold Coast: Star Indian boxer M C Mary Kom won gold in the women's 48 kilogram category at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) here on Saturday.

In athletics, Neeraj Chopra, Vipin Kashana and Jinson Johnson entered the finals of their respective events. The Indian boxer started her final bout for gold at Gold Coast with supreme confidence and her rich experience helped her outclassing the rookie Irish opponent. Young gun Anish Bhanwala, only 15-year-old won the gold in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men's Finals. Bouts are awarded on the basis of technical superiority when a wrestler takes a lead of 10 or more points. Pooja had defeated Joseph Tiako of Cameroon 11-5 in the semi-finals. Divya Kakran also got home a Bronze medal for India in Wrestling defeating Sherin Sultana of Bangladesh. The team will now compete for third place against either Australia or England.

Manish Kaushik, the favourite for the 60 kg lost out after a split decision went in favour of Australian Harry Garside.


Amit lost a close bout to England's Galal Yafai after going down 28-29, 27-30, 29-28, 28-28, 28-29 via split verdict.Kaushik put on a riveting effort in his final bout against Harry Garside, but in the end, the Australian was declared victor by the judges, who gave a 3:2 split decision.

Men's 52kg final: Gaurav Solanki, 8.32 a.m.

Parker dominated the first round with a score of 10-9, 10-9, 10-9, 10-9, 10-9.
