13 students killed in bus-train collision in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh: In a Shocking Incident, 13 school children and 1 driver got killed, as a train hit a school van on early Thursday morning in UP's Kushinagar.

The shocking news has come from Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar where 13 children have died after their school van collided with a moving train at an unmanned rail crossing today.

Reacting to the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his deepest condolences and announced an ex-gratia of Rs two lakh each to the family members of the deceased and ordered an inquiry by the Gorakhpur commissioner. The Railway Ministry announced additional compensation of Rs 2 lakh each.

Reports said the among the eight injured, seven are said to be in a critical stage and presently undergoing treatment at a hospital. "Deeply saddened by the death of school children n the unfortunate train crash in Kushinagar district". The official claimed that a "Gate Mitra (friend)" - a person who alerts commuters about approaching trains at unmanned crossings - tried to stop the van but it was too late.

An accident relief medical train from Gorakhpur had been dispatched to the site.

Twelve children were killed when a train crashed into a school van in northern India, AP reported, citing police.

Most of the deceased as said to be aged below 10 years.

India's railroad network is one of the world's largest with 23 million people riding daily on about 11,000 passenger trains. "The Uttar Pradesh government will take appropriate action", PM Modi said, while interacting with the Karnataka BJP workers through the NaMo App.
