There is a little update page of the shop showing the amount of Gold Coins you will earn when purchasing a game.

Have you been racking up Gold Points as a My Nintendo member over the last few months and need an outlet for all of them? Just look for the option to apply your points during checkout.

My Nintendo users will accrue My Nintendo Gold Points at a rate of 5% per dollar for digital purchases, and 1% per dollar for physical purchases.

Nintendo has also revamped the Switch eShop.

Purchases of Nintendo 3DS or Wii U DLC do not qualify to earn Gold Points. 1 Gold Point amounts to 1 cent.

Gold points are one of two point tiers that players can earn on My Nintendo, the other being Platinum. And that subscriptions, passes, in-game items, virtual currency, or downloadable content on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will not reward you with Gold Points. So, if players are trying to rack up points, make sure to double check what the Nintendo eShop is selling the game for.

The firm hasn't offered up any more information about the issue, but Reddit users have spied that "Nintendo's code is only looking for the day and month you last played the game and figuring out the time since then". You'll rack up My Nintendo points for doing so.
