TDP ministers Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Y.S. Chowdary resigned on Thursday following the orders of their party chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The post for Civil Aviation Minister was vacant following Ashok Gajapati Raju quit Prime Minister Narendra Modi's council of ministers. The TDP, however, has not quit the NDA entirely.

Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu today said new industrial policy will be announced in the next few weeks, which will focus on new industries that will drive future growth of the country.

The TDP minister chose to step down from his duties citing a discord between the #Modi government and the Andhra Pradesh government over the grant of special status to the southern State by the Central government. "Further, as advised by the Prime Minister, The President has directed that the work of the Ministry of Civil Aviation will be looked after by the Prime Minister".

The Civil Aviation Ministry is also working in the direction of making 100 airports functional either by constructing new ones or by improving the existing ones.

The main focus of the government in aviation now is to complete the divestment process of Air India and its subsidiaries before the next general election due in 2019. He was reassigned to the Commerce Ministry during last year's Cabinet reshuffle.

In the aftermath of the accidents, Prabhu had suggested that he had offered to resign as the Railways Minster, and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked him to "wait".
