Spotify's New Feature Will Let Users Edit Song Information

The service is free for the first month and then is R59.99 per month after the trial for the premium membership.

Apple's Apple Music streaming service, which has been No. 2 in USA subscribers behind Spotify AB, is quickly gaining ground against its rival and may overtake it this summer. Cue said Apple has 8 million subscribers now in the free trial period, the first time Apple has disclosed the number of trial users.

In addition to the 35 million songs already available on Spotify, it is also building up a collection of Israeli music and is already working with a range of local artists.

The service offers playlists tailor-made for Israel, including "Israel's Top Hits", "New Mediterranean", "Hip Hop Generation", and "Israeli Weekend", as well as millions of global playlists. The Israel launch means that Spotify is now available in 62 countries. Earlier this month, Spotify announced it is planning to list on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SPOT, targeting a $1 billion direct public offering.

In 2009, Spotify won the public backing of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who posted: "Spotify is so good".

Last week, Calcalist reported that Spotify was planning to launch its service in Israel on Monday. As it stands now, Spotify currently boasts more than 70 million paying subscribers and more than 159 million active users, the majority of which take advantage of the company's ad-supported tier.

According to the website The Trichordist, Spotify paid an average of €0.03 ($0.037) for each song listened to by a user on the platform.
