Ronaldo rescues Real Madrid late on

Barcelona remained unbeaten in the Spanish league through all 28 rounds and extended its lead to 11 points over Atletico Madrid, which hosts Celta Vigo on Sunday.

Despite starting poorly, Cristiano Ronaldo gave Real Madrid a first half lead, getting on the end of a through ball played from deep by Luka Modric to smash home a clever finish at the neat post.

But Eibar secured themselves a deserved equaliser five minutes after the restart, as Ramis headed in a corner from Pedro Leon, who provided an assist against his former club for the sixth time, the most he has provided against any other opponent in LaLiga.

He re-emerged a full five minutes later and Real Madrid coach Zidane was asked to explain the defender's odd absence.

Taking into account the 30-year-old's return of 126 goals in 265 league outings across his near-decade at the Bernabeu, though, Zidane does not believe that he has to justify his decision to select the Frenchman.

Eibar appeared to target Madrid's full-backs and their crosses from both flanks continued to trouble, even if they often just missed the intended target.

Ronaldo has scored in his last seven appearances in all competitions, and Zidane said: "He is from another galaxy".

Real skipper Sergio Ramos is said to have found out about Ronaldo's discontent and has passed his concerns onto president Florentino Perez.

Ronaldo finally doubled Real's tally in the 84th minute on a header to give his team its second league victory in a row.

Madrid defender Raphael Varane was substituted in the 26th after a blow to the head.

He took a long pass deep to the left from Luka Modric, before chesting it down to his feet.

Madrid was six minutes away from dropping points when Ronaldo came through with a powerful header to send in Dani Carvajal's cross and grab victory.
