Baseball teams the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox could be the latest sporting giants from America to visit London, with the two sides nearing an agreement to play at the former Olympic stadium next year. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Monday because no announcement had been made.

"I've never been to London", Yankees manager Aaron Boone said.

"The sooner the better", he previously told Standard Sport with regards to an Major League Baseball game at the London Stadium, "because I want London to be the sporting capital of the world".

Assuming plans are finalized, the series will be played at Olympic Stadium, which hosted the 2012 Olympics and is now used for soccer and track and field events.

After the games end, the site will be closed to undergo another metamorphosis. "I think the travel would be interesting, how they set that up". The United States' oldest professional league has sent teams to play regular-season games in Japan, Australia and Mexico.

The Red Sox played an exhibition series in Montreal prior to the 2017 season, but haven't been overseas for a series since playing the Athletics in Tokyo in 2008.
