Razorbacks Advance to SEC Semifinals with 80-72 Victory Over Florida

The high-powered offense of Florida will clash against the mid-tier defense of Arkansas.

Three Ole Miss players scored in double-figures, including Terence Davis with 16 points, Stevens with 15 and Deandre Burnett with 13. Arkansas tied the game at 10 when Barford made a 3-pointer less than 4 1/2 minutes into the half, but a second Koulechov 3 regained control for the Gators.

Florida never got the game closer than seven after that, as the Razorbacks kept it at bay by making free throws. Clearly, Arkansas didn't need to play with pace considering they won the game, but they only finished with five fast break points. It wouldn't surprise anyone if the Hogs win the SEC Tournament and make a serious run in the NCAA Tournament.

Arkansas is a very good team right now.

That started an 8-0 run which climaxed on a Stone layup with 12:49 left in the half, giving Florida an 18-10 lead. Since then, they had lost the eight straight games to add to a stretch of 13 losses in 14 games to the Gators.

Daryl Macon posted 13 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Anton Beard added 10 points, three rebounds and three assists.

SC (17-16), trying to follow up last year's run to the Final Four with another postseason flurry, will have to settle for an invitation to the NIT after losing nine of its final 13 games.

The third-seeded Gators (20-11) will face sixth-seed Arkansas on Friday night in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals.

After trading blows the first three and-a-half minutes of the second half, Arkansas went up 5 points.

Silva's free throws with 1:11 left got SC back within two points but the Razorbacks clinched the victory from the foul line. Arkansas has now won 40 straight games when leading at halftime, and it's well on its way to a third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four seasons.

Chris Silva had 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the No. 11 seed Gamecocks (17-16), who advanced to the second round with a win over MS on Wednesday night.

The Gators have won eight straight against Arkansas, dating back to February 5, 2013, when the Razorbacks last beat Florida 80-69 at Bud Walton Arena.

Silva and Kotsar both scored 15 points to lead SC.

Florida brings a three-game winning streak into the tournament. They combine to average 35.0 points per game and are both knockdown shooters from all three levels.

The Razorbacks took a 7-point lead on a 1 of 2 showing at the free throw line by Barford with 7:56 left to move the Hogs ahead 55-48.
