Mario Kart invades Google Maps today

At the time of writing, despite having the most up-to-date Google Maps app on iOS, the Mario Day feature wasn't yet appearing.

"To celebrate our favorite mustachioed plumber-turned-racer on his special day-MAR10 Day-we've collaborated with the team at Nintendo to let Mario accompany you on all of your driving adventures on Google Maps this week", Google announced on Friday. It's in an update for Google Maps that was pushed out today: Just open the app, and find the question block next to a destination. You don't want to get into an accident because you were too busy staring at Mario riding his little kart. Nintendo and Google have partnered up to bring Mario to Google Maps on iOS or Android. - Mario. He'll be a constant companion wherever you're driving this week - to work, to school, or the spaghetti house.

Nintendo is also offering a discount on its smartphone app Super Mario Run from March 10 to March 25. Once it does, you can tap it to turn your navigation arrow into Mario for the remainder of the event. You can then tap to add it to your photo. Google says the feature is rolling out globally to Maps users today and will last for one week.

Mario will be available as a simple position marker across Google Maps worldwide for a week.
