To use this new feature, users have to first update the Google Maps app to its latest version from the App Store.

For a limited time, users who fire up Google Maps for Global Positioning System directions can now use a Mario Kart position indicator for the duration of their journey. Mario mode will be available only through 17 March 2018, so check it out soon. Instead of the boring arrow, you will now see Mario in his red kart but that is not all. Users will be presented with a prompt to enable the "Mario Time!" feature and then they need to select the "Lets A-Go" option.

To celebrate the favourite moustachioed plumber-turned-racer, Google has collaborated with the team at Nintendo to let Mario accompany you on all of your driving adventures on Google Maps from Mario Day (March 10; when Super Mario was born).

Enter a location you want to go.

Once enabled, users would notice that the regular navigation arrow has morphed into Mario - the 1990s' video game character.

Starting today, Google Maps users can unlock the feature by clicking the question mark box at the bottom right corner of the Directions screen. He'll be a constant companion wherever you're driving this week- to work, to school, or the curry house.

The Japanese game company is now working on Mario Kart Tour, a mobile game whose exact release date is yet to be revealed.

"Just do not forget to practice safe driving on the road - we don't encourage throwing bananas or red shells at other drivers in real life!" This is in partnership with the game developer, Nintendo.
