Meanwhile, Sridevi was supposed to reunite with her Gumrah co-star after nearly 25 years with Abhishek's film, which will also star Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Aditya Roy Kapur.

She took to the site earlier on Monday to explain how Indian film director Abhishek Varman's next movie was "very close" to Sridevi's heart.

Madhuri's entry has given rise to the prospect of her pairing once again with Sanjay Dutt, with whom she was rumoured to have had a relationship back in the early nineties, though the actress denied it.

However, she passed away on February 24 due to accidental drowning inside a bathtub at a Dubai hotel.

Karan confirmed Madhuri's entry.

No other detail, including the films title and the primary cast, was, however, revealed.

Shiddat is to be directed by Abhishek Varman, who also directed 2 State. After her death, Madhuri Dixit is now on board for the project and will be portraying the role initially written for Sridevi.

Shiddat also stars Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sanjay Dutt as the lead characters.

The film was announced past year when Karan Johar launched a statement that he was reuniting with Abhishek on a project that would co-produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.

"Although Janhvi's first magazine cover shoot with her mother was for People magazine, she was really looking forward to this Vogue cover as this would mark her foray into films". She even shared the picture of Sridevi and Madhuri in her post. "That is certainly not on his priority list".
