Jose Mourinho calls Frank de Boer 'worst manager in Premier League history'

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has hit back at Frank de Boer after the former Crystal Palace coach made comments suggesting he's the wrong manager for Marcus Rashford.

While summarising the game for BT Sport, De Boer claimed it was a "pity" that Mourinho was responsible for Rashford's development given his prioritisation of results and lack of inclination to nurture younger players.

"I'm not upset with the fans about Rashford", Mourinho said after the match.

He does not have a reputation for promoting youth but, while Saturday marked Rashford's first league start of 2018, Mourinho cited the number of games that 20-year-old forward has played in his two-season reign: 93 and counting.

Rashford, who scored a brace to hand United a 2-1 win over rivals Liverpool on the weekend, hasn't been a regular feature in the side as of late, but his heroics against the Reds must have given Mourinho something to think about.

"I try to give the best to the kid, I have to be honest and give the credit to the people of the academy that was responsible for his formation, to Mr Van Gaal who was responsible for his first season".

"If he was coached by Frank he would lose because he lost every game".

The former Chelsea manager has not just talked the talked though but has also walked the walked as Marcus Rashford was the only player involved in every match-day squad prior to his injury.

However, De Boer's brief stint in England - where he guided Palace to four straight top-flight defeats, and no goals, before being sacked after 77 days - gave Mourinho plenty of ammunition to reply.

Jose Mourinho can only hope that Manchester United are as ruthless against Sevilla on Tuesday as he was in dealing with another of his critics before the Champions League last-16 clash at Old Trafford. "The best thing that can happen to a kid is experience and Marcus is having this". He plays for United many matches, he starts some comes from the bench for others.

Saturday's victory was the Portuguese manager's 68th Premier League game as United boss and Rashford has played a part in 59 of them. "I'm really happy with Marcus". I am really pleased with everything. I said that before the Liverpool match when many of you were maybe not expecting him to start.
