J&K: 2 militants killed, CRPF jawan injured in encounter in Khonmoh

Srinagar, Mar 15 A BJP leader escaped a militant attack in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir today, but his personal security officer (PSO) was injured in the incident, the police said.

The attack was repulsed but the militants opened fire in which a PSO, identified as Bilal Ahmad, was injured who was hospitalized.

The militants had taken refuge in the houses in the area after their attempt to attack a BJP leader Dr Anwar Khan was foiled by his security guards yesterday afternoon.

Work was also affected in government offices and banks besides educational institutions as second militant killed in the encounter was identified as Shabir Dar, a resident of of Awantipora.

Soon after the incident, the joint team of army, CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of police cordoned off the whole area and launched a massive hunt to nab the assailants. The injured CRPF jawan was later rushed to 92 Base Hospital for treatment.

"Along with the dead bodies incriminating materials which include weapon and ammunition have been recovered as well", he added.

"As per police records, they had joined the terror outfit a year ago..." Police have registered a case under relevant sections and investigation is in progress, the spokesman added.
