"To get this responsibility is a way for me to give back to the sport in the city", Gambhir was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. You can only try and lead by example. "It will be good that I will be able to play in a good, peaceful and happy environment", Gambhir said at franchises jersey unveiling ceremony.

The seasoned Gautam Gambhir was named captain of Delhi Daredevils for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), which will mark his return to the franchise after a gap of eight years. I started my IPL and cricket career.

"If you can make a comeback, then it's a by-product".

About the hefty price-tag bringing added pressure, the 36-year-old said, "Game changers deserve to have a long rope, and can not be expected to be consistent".

Former Australian legendary batsmen Ricky Ponting, who is the head coach of the Daredevils had more or less confirmed the news of Gambhir leading Delhi for IPL 2018. "And sometimes, it's not about price tag but about game-changers, who need to be given a longer rope because they can change the game". He added, "Delhi has deserved a lot of success in the past which they have not so hopefully this is the year where they can achieve a lot of success". "I haven't had it in last couple of years", he observed.

"I had maintained post the auction that Gauti (Gambhir) has unfinished business with the franchise", Dua said. His last season of IPL also has also been very good. Above all, he is a leader.

Under his leadership, KKR won the title two times. It is the drive behind the outward confidence which I think will inspire the rest of the team. "He has the respect of the dressing room, and the franchise is proud to have him as our captain". "I am glad that they are both on the same page", Mr Dua said. The IPL commences on April 7 and Delhi Daredevils play their first game at home on April 8 against Kings XI Punjab.
