On Tuesday, March 13, 2018, Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid took to social media to confirm their recent breakup.

The two started dating in late 2015 and became one of the most sought-after celebrity couples after they appeared together in Malik's romantic "Pillowtalk" music video in January 2016. The post served as a joint statement of sorts, and - despite the sad nature of the news - was nothing but respectful and loving. She wrote, "love this man more than I could ever put into words, & am inspired by his drive to be and do better everyday ✨ cheers to YOUR YEAR my @zayn - happiest happiest birthday & 25th year of life! She has such an incredible soul", the former One Direction singer tweeted in a text-post.

He added, "I'm grateful to all of our fans for respecting this hard decision and our privacy at this time, we wish this news could have come from us first. We love you all. xZ". Hadid's statement mentioned she wants "nothing but the best for him" and she "will continue to support him as a friend that [she has] enormous respect and love for". Just two months ago, Hadid posted a sweet photo of Malik on her Instagram, to celebrate his birthday.

"As for the future, whatever's meant to be will always be" she added.

"Sadly Zayn and Gigi have separated", a source told the tabloid.

The source continued: 'This is definitely the end for now, but this isn't a bitter split and they both have respect for each other. Gigi nor Zayn have publicly commented on the split. They have allegedly been drifting apart for a while and their "crazy work schedules" were putting pressure and tension on the romance.

Hadid, 22, and Malik, 25, met at a Victoria's Secret Fashion Show after party in November 2015, and had briefly broken up in June 2016.
