Babies 'R' Us Is Closing Alongside Toys 'R' Us

A buyer could potentially still operate some US stores from a Canadian base.

Amazon is understood to be mulling an expansion into former Toys R Us sites across the United States as the toy retailer begins its final wind down.

The possible deal wouldn't save the bankrupt toy store.

A report by Bloomberg, suggests that Amazon is in talks about the potential purchase of some Toys "R" Us retail units and facilities, that are spread across the US.

The interest comes as Amazon has spent a good part of the a year ago establishing a physical retail presence.

Toys "R" Us heads to US Bankruptcy Court on Tuesday (March 20) to defend its liquidation plan against an onslaught of objections from creditors, particularly suppliers demanding payment for thousands of toys ranging from Poopeez to Bratz.

"All of the remaining 75 Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us stores will remain open until further notice".

The news comes as Amazon seems to be expanding its brick-and-mortar presence. The stores would reportedly be used to showcase its Echo line of devices.

Toys R Us' collapse is in part due to growing pressure from Amazon, which has disrupted the entire sector by offering numerous same items at significantly lower prices and with the convenience of delivery.

Whole Foods is working towards streamlining its supplier process across the USA, to help ensure all store are operating under the same rules and - where possible - using the same, or approved suppliers.
