All of that will change in a few days, though, as the company's next pair of devices, the XZ2 and XZ2 Compact will see massive design overhauls.

Coming from prolific leaker Evan Blass and posted at Venturebeat, the render shows that Sony has finally moved away from those large top and bottom bezels that were giving previous Xperia's a rather dated look.

On the specifications side of the fence, both devices will launch on Android 8.0, and will be powered by the Snapdragon 845. The XZ2 boasts a 5.7-inch screen, while the compact version measures at 5.0 inches. To add to its stunning look, its shiny finish ranges up to four colours: black, green, silver and pink. It comes in glossy finish whereas the XZ2 compact is made up of a non-scratch polycarbonate finish. But on a similar note, the full HD LCDS of both these models are protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 5.

The XZ2 will reportedly use the same 19-megapixel camera setup as last year's XZ Premium. Around back there is a 19MP camera with a f/1.8 aperture and 4K HDR video recording.

We were expecting to see the new Sony Xperia XZ2 at Mobile World Congress next week, but at the eleventh hour, an image has just leaked. When the company announced the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra back at CES, both also featured rear-facing fingerprint scanners. The XZ2 will feature a 3,180 mAh battery that can be charged via USB-C or wirelessly, while the XZ2 Compact, with its 2,870 mAh battery, can only be charged with a wire. The XZ2 will have a feature that will supplement audio with haptic feedback which syncs up with the sound. The XZ2 will have wireless charging capabilities, and have a 3180 mAh battery. Not only will they be two new flagships for 2018, but the XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are expected to introduce a whole new design for Sony's Xperia smartphones.

Yes, that is correct; the smartphone could be the first belonging to the Xperia lineup to provide support for this type of charging.

These phones will officially be revealed on Sunday at MWC 2018, which is when we'll learn pricing and other details.
