Encounter breaks out between security forces, militants in J&K

The security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Tantray Mohalla area of Pattan in the early hours, a police official said, reported PTI.

A police spokesman said Friday afternoon that information about presence of militants in Tantaraypora Palhalan was received.He said accordingly a joint operation was launched in the area.

The police official said that as the cordon was tightened, the hiding terrorists fired at the security personnel triggering the encounter, which is still on.

A fierce gunfight has started between terrorists and the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Friday.

There was a brief exchange of gunfire between the two sides before the stone pelting youth engaged the security forces in clashes. The police and para-military CRPF used teargas shells to disperse the protesters. In the ensuing clash, the terrorists managed to escape the security grid and one civilian - Ghulam Hassan (24) - sustained pellet injuries and had to be hospitalised, said sources. Railway authorities suspended train services on the Srinagar to Baramulla route during the entire day. The alert sentry immediately retaliated forcing the terrorists to retreat.
