Former Delhi Congress chief and minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, who quit the Congress to join the BJP in May 2017, has returned to his parent party.

Congress's Delhi chief Ajay Maken revealed Lovely's return to the party on Saturday. "I accept that there were communication gaps before MCD election". Speaking to media, Lovely said that the decision to leave the Congress was painful even for him since he found himself misfit with the BJP ideology. Within a year, the politician switched back to Congress. "But, now, we have put aside our differences and promised to work together for the growth of the party", Maken said.

"Quitting Congress and joining BJP was not a happy decision for me".

"Congress will be strengthened by his presence again and we will serve the people of Delhi", the Congress leader said.

The announcement was made by AICC incharge of Delhi unit PC Chacko, along with Maken, where Lovely said he never felt good quitting the party.

Earlier in the morning, Lovely met Congress president Rahul Gandhi at his residence.

Unperturbed over Mr Lovely rejoining Congress, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari told this newspaper that it was the former city minister's decision to join BJP.

The development can be seen as a big boost for the Congress ahead of the by-polls for the 20 Delhi Assembly seats.

He had quit the Congress and joined the BJP in the presence of party president Amt Shah, ahead of the Delhi civic polls in April past year.

"He realised that at the end, our own home is better", Sheila Dixit, former chief minister of Delhi, said.
